Over the last few years in aesthetics I have noticed a switch from the previous trend of fillers and changing how we look, to clients wanting a more natural healthy look. This concentrates on prevention and feeding the skin with the best products having an anti-ageing effect without altering the way we look drastically.
What are polynucleotide skin boosters?
Polynucleotides are filtered ultra-purified DNA fractions that initiate your body’s natural fibroblast production. The molecules are derived from fragments of fish which mirrors human DNA.
This means they are not suitable for vegans, vegetarians or anyone with fish allergies.
How do they work?
They are a new concept of regenerative medicine, which promote cell turnover, they interact with specific receptors on skin cells promoting cellular regeneration and the production of new collagen and elastin fibres.
How does this help your skin?
Polynucleotides help to improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin, restoring a healthy glow and improving lines and wrinkles as well as dark patches and uneven skin tone. They are also useful in reducing acne scarring.
They calm inflammation and rebalance melanocyte activity to create an even and refreshed skin tone.
They improve skin hydration and studies showed after 20 weeks this had improved by 115%.
Elasticity is also increased by 38%.
Collagen is increased by 47% in 23 days and the epidermis is 52% thicker and therefore healthier.
How are they different to hyaluronic acid skin boosters?
Rather than providing hydration polynucleotides communicate with the cells to make them produce the collagen and elastin.
Where can they be used?
They can be used effectively under the eyes, for the face and neck and even for the jaw and cheekbones. They can also be used to reduce scarring and to stimulate hair growth.
They are placed using a needle or cannulae.
Does it hurt?
Numbing cream is applied to reduce any discomfort, there is a sting on injection but the procedure is relatively quick,
How long do results last?
For best results an initial 3-4 treatments are advised 3-4 weeks apart with a top up session every 3-6 months.
Unlike dermal fillers which offer instant results polynucleotides take several weeks to show results with best results seen 2-3 months following the treatment.
